Housing Plus Group named in Top 50 Biggest Builders

Housing Plus Group has been named as one of the Top 50 Biggest Builders in the country in a new survey published by Inside Housing magazine.

This is the first time that we have been included in the annual ranking, placing us among the top three per cent of social landlords in the UK.

The good news has been revealed weeks before we celebrate the first anniversary of the merger between Housing Plus Group and Stafford and Rural Homes.

A pledge to help relieve the local housing crisis by working to build an additional 2,000 new homes for rent, shared ownership and outright sale by 2023 was at the heart of the plan uniting both organisations.

During 2019/20 we invested £30m building 291 new homes in Shropshire and Staffordshire. Developments included a £2.6m scheme which created 24 new homes in the heart of Wellington and a project to regenerate an area of Stafford with the construction of 40 new homes for affordable rent and shared ownership.

Our ambitious programme is set to continue.

We have already started work to provide 20 new retirement homes in Kinver and we are looking forward to opening Wren House in Stafford which will offer 80 apartments for people aged 55+ in the centre of the county town. Soon, work will get underway on our new development in Perton which will provide 220 new homes and we are also preparing to build 21 rural properties in Pontesbury near Shrewsbury as well as 31 homes in the suburbs of Bridgnorth early next year.

“We are delighted to have been included in the Top Fifty Biggest Builders survey for the first time”, said chief executive Sarah Boden. “Our Group sets out to make a positive difference for homes, lives and communities. Providing new homes in our towns and rural areas is one of the most important ways that we can do that, which is why we are committed to starting to build an additional 2,000 new homes by 2023.

“I’m proud that as a not-for-profit organisation, we do more than simply build houses, we are providing essential homes.”
