Helping people take their first steps into a rewarding career gives me a huge sense of achievement and pride in the work I do. Kaz is a great example of someone who really wanted to get back into work but needed help to get there.

Kaz came along to our local job club at Crowmere Church, Monkmoor in January.  Having recently moved into one of our homes, she had heard about the support we offered from her neighbours.

I quickly recognised that Kaz had lots of excellent qualities; she just wasn’t sure where to start.  By working through and organising her career history she was able to create a new CV and start applying for jobs. I knew it would only be a matter of time before she was snapped up by a future employer, so I was absolutely over the moon for her when she secured a position.

“Edge has been a real star, without him I wouldn’t be where I am today,” explains Kaz. “After a number of years out of work, I really didn’t know which way to turn. At the weekly job club, I enjoyed a cuppa and received 1-2-1 support from Edge. My first task was to pull together my work history and create a new CV.  Once I had my CV, I learnt how to apply and complete job applications online. 

“I was absolutely thrilled to secure my position with Lidl. I trained at the Harlescott store, before moving to their new store which has recently opened in Shrewsbury.  Edge has helped me turn my life around, something I will always be grateful for, especially if I hopefully progress in my employment with Lidl.”

No day is ever the same working as part of Severnside’s learning programme and digital inclusion team, as the support we offer is tailored to individual needs.  It is always motivational to receive great feedback so when I asked Kaz if she would recommend our services to others and she told me “Without a doubt, I would recommend this service to anyone, young or old!” – I was delighted.
